Rikomagic MK902II sporting the new RK3288 SOC
Rikomagic is prepping an Android 4.4 ready “MK902II” mini-PC claimed to
be three times faster than earlier models thanks to its Cortex-A17
Rockchip RK3288.
Rikomagic’s MK902II is set to arrive in June, only a few months after the company launched its first mini-PC versions of the previously HDMI stick form-factor media players. The Android 4.4-focused MK902II has the same footprint as the recent MK902 and very similar, Ubuntu Linux-based MK902 LE. Rikomagic has yet to announce a Linux version of the MK902II, although like the MK902, the MK902II can run Linux as well.

Ugoos UT3 with the RK3288 inside
Ugoos is readying a “UT3″ media player mini-PC that will run Android 4.4
on a Rockchip quad-core, Cortex-A17 RK3288 SoC, and will support 4K
video output.
The Ugoos UT3 is a follow-on to the recent Ugoos UT2 Android media player box, which runs Android 4.2.2 on Rockchip’s 1.6GHz, quad-core RK3188 system-on-chip. The UT3 moves up to the ARM Cortex-A17 based, quad-core Rockchip RK3288, which was announced in February. The only other Cortex-A17 SoC announced to date is Mediatek’s octa-core MT6595, which combines four 2.5GHz Cortex-A17 cores with four 1.7GHz Cortex-A7 cores.

Allwinner A80 octa-core chip coming next month
Allwinner has announced that the first products featuring its new
octa-core processors should arrive by the end of the second quarter of
2014. The Chinese chip maker also says its A80 Optimus Board developer platform should ship in May.
The Allwinner UltraOcta A80 features an 8-core CPU with 4 ARM Cortex-A15 cores and 4 lower-power Cortex-A7 cores. The chip uses ARM big.LITTLE technology and heterogenous computing so that you can use all 8 CPU cores at once when needed, while using a combination of fewer cores most of the time to conserve power.

MK902 Quad Core RK3188 mini pc
Rikomagic has spun a mini-PC version of its quad-core Cortex-A9 Rockchip
RK3188-based MK802 stick computers that run Android or Ubuntu, starting
at $105.
The same week that Rockchip launched a new quad-core Cortex-A17 RK3288 system-on-chip, one of its earliest and most successful customers has eeked out some more life from the Cortex-A9 based RK3188. Rikomagic was one of the first and most successful of the wave of low-cost Android-ready, media player oriented HDMI stick computers that began to appear at the beginning of this decade. Now, it has launched a larger, more I/O rich miniPC alternative to its Android-based MK802IV. There’s also a very similar Ubuntu Linux-based MK802IV LE.

Rockchip RK3288 Specifications
On February Rockchip announced the RK3288 SoC, which combines four ARM Cortex-A17
cores with a 4- or 16-core Mali-T7xx GPU, a 4Kx2K video decoder, and
HDCP2.x security.
Rockchip is the second chipmaker to jump on ARM’s recently announced Cortex-A17 processor design, after MediaTek’s octa-core MT6595 system-on-chip. This heir to the quad-core, Cortex-A9 RK3188, which fuels Android stick computers like the Rikomagic MK802IV and Ugoos UM2, was tipped at CES as being a Cortex-A12 processor. However, Rockchip instead converted the SoC to the similarly 32-bit Cortex-A17.

MediaTek's new ARM Cortex-A17
On February ARM unveiled a Cortex-A17 core for midrange mobile
devices, which will appear first in a MediaTek MT6595 octa-core SoC
that includes four 2.5GHz -A17 cores.
ARM compares the Cortex-A17 with the Cortex-A9, claiming 60 percent faster performance and improved power and area efficiency. Yet, it also appears intended as an update to the newer Cortex-A15 processor IP design. The Cortex-A15 turned out to consume more power than expected, and initially had troubles in the implementation of its most significant new feature: Big.Little interoperability on a single chipset with Cortex-A7 cores. The Cortex-A17 is similarly designed to support SoCs with up to four cores, as well as in Big.Little hybrids using the -A7, with the help of its CoreLink CCI-400 Cache Coherent Interconnect, says ARM. It is said to fully support Global Task Switching (GTS), enabling power and performance optimizations for each core, a feature that was unavailable on the first Big.Little hybrids, such as the Samsung Exynos 5420 Octa-core.

Ubuntu 14.04 through Picuntu 5.1 on the MarsBoard RK3066 dev board
Picuntu is a custom version of Ubuntu Linux designed to run on devices
with Rockchip processors. That effectively lets you turn a cheap Android
TV box into a full-fledged PC capable of running desktop apps such as
LibreOffice, GIMP and Firefox.
Now the developer has released a new beta that’s based on recently-released Ubuntu 14.04. It’s called Picuntu 5.1 and it’s optimized for the $60 MarsBoard RK3066 developer board.

3D graphics support for Rockchip RK3188 devices on Linux
Developers have been porting Ubuntu and other operating systems to
run on tablets and TV boxes with Rockchip RK3188 quad-core chips since mid-2013.
The RK3188 chip is one of the fastest ARM Cortex-A9 processors around,
and Ubuntu is surprisingly snappy on devices with the processor… but up
until now there’s been no Linux support for hardware-accelerate
graphics.
That means that while web browsers, office apps, and other basic software run well on a device like the MK802 IV LE, up until now it’s been tough to play 3D games or run some other apps using Linux on this type of device.
Now a group of developers have added initial support for hardware-accelerated graphics.

Review of the Quad Core Mele A1000G Android TV Box
Mele is one of the best Chinese android Mini PC manufacturers. They make high quality products and have very good customer service.
The Quad Core Mele A1000G is one of these devices. The build quality is very good and the TV Box feels solid and sturdy. It is made from aluminium and plastic and the ventilation is more than enough to keep it from getting hot. At least, the one i have is running non stop and never gets hot.

HP SlateBook 14, an android 14" screen laptop powered by Nvidia Tegra
It is not very normal to see a 14'' inch screen dedicated laptop running the android operating system. Usually in the past, we saw similar iterations. The difference is that these iterations were tablets connected to keyboard docks. This time HP presented some images on the net, of the first full fledged 14'' screen, android laptop called the HP Slatebook 14 that comes equipped with the Nvidia Tegra 4 or their latest SOC, the K1.

A very stylish EZCast Adaptor
Everyone likes the look and design of this miracast adapter called TS-02. It stands up from the crowd for its unique design using a leather finish and a discreet golden colour. I am curious about this design choice, because these adapters are often not visible given that they are placed behind your tv set. Other highlights are the external antenna and low price
